In 1st/2nd History class we were reading a book called "If you lived 100 years ago" that took place in the early 1900's in NYC.
I had to stop and pause and discuss several times within the few pages of the book.
Living in Africa in 2010 and in NYC in the early 1900's has several similarities
--Electricity is not widespread
-Running water is not widespread.
-Outdoor toilets are the norm.
--Electricity, if you have it, working all the time (same with water)
--Access to services.
--Outdoor markets/vendors
The list really could go on and on, and may as I read more in the book with the students. It is interesting what living in another culture will do to your perspective.....
